The technical glitch in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is now gradually being rectified. Airport authorities stated that the situation is improving and flight operations are slowly returning to normal.
New Delhi: Thousands of flights were affected due to a technical snag in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), one of India's busiest airports. The Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) was at the heart of this disruption, playing a crucial role in controlling air traffic and managing flight planning, routing, and weather-related information.
The sudden problem that arose late Thursday night forced the ATC system to be temporarily shifted to manual mode. Consequently, flight operations at airports in Delhi and other northern regions were impacted. At IGIA alone, approximately 1000 flights faced delays from morning until 7 PM. This led to long queues for passengers and crowded terminals.

In an official statement, the airport authority said that the technical snag in the AMSS is gradually being rectified, and flight operations are returning to normal. All concerned officials are continuously working to minimize inconvenience to passengers. The airport authority urged passengers to regularly contact their airline for the latest status of their flights.
IndiGo Airlines also announced on its social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), that the temporary issue affecting ATC has now been resolved. The airline stated that normal operations are gradually being restored at Delhi and other affected airports in the northern region. IndiGo praised the efforts of ATC officials and airport management and appealed to passengers to remain patient.
Improvement in Operations and Possibility of Delays
Airlines stated that the work to bring AMSS back online was expedited, leading to a gradual return to normal flight operations. However, some flight delays and terminal crowding may still persist. Passengers are advised to remain in contact with their airline for information regarding changes in flight times.
As IGIA is a major international hub, any technical disruption here affects not only domestic flights but also international routes.
