Delhi Building Collapsed: A four-story building suddenly collapsed in the Welcome police station area of Delhi's North-Eastern district on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 7 am in the Janta Mazdoor Colony. According to local residents, several people were present in the building at the time, many of whom were trapped under the debris. Preliminary information suggests that approximately 11 people were trapped. Seven people have been rescued and taken to the hospital. Four others are still buried beneath the rubble.
Fire Department's Vigilance and Challenging Rescue
Seven vehicles from the fire department are present at the scene, and the rescue operation is proceeding rapidly. Officials say the narrow lanes and densely populated area are hindering the relief efforts. Despite this, the rescue and relief work is continuing on a war footing. Teams from the Delhi Police and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) are also deployed at the site, along with the fire brigade.
Old and Dilapidated Building Caused the Accident
The exact cause of the incident is not yet clear, but initial estimates suggest that the building was quite old and in a dilapidated condition. It is reported that the building was approximately 35 square yards and about 15 years old. Two families resided inside, including women and children. Most people were asleep at the time of the accident.
Connection to Seelampur and Janta Colony
The incident is reported to have occurred in Gali No. 5 of Janta Colony, Seelampur. The lanes here are extremely narrow, causing considerable difficulty for the rescue team in working with machines. Despite this, no effort is being spared in the rescue operation.
NDRF Team at the Scene
To expedite the rescue operation, an NDRF team has also arrived at the site. NDRF officials are continuously engaged in removing debris and searching for those trapped. The seven rescued people have been admitted to a nearby hospital. The condition of the injured is being monitored.
Similar incidents have occurred in Delhi before. In April, a four-story building collapsed in the Dayalpur area of North-East Delhi, resulting in the loss of four lives. That incident took place in the Mustafabad area. Despite this, no concrete steps have been taken by the administration against dilapidated and illegal constructions.
Panic and Anger Among Local Residents
A large number of local residents have gathered at the scene. There is both panic and anger among the people. Many people say that there are several weak and illegal buildings of this kind in the colony, but the administration does not take timely action. People have also expressed their displeasure with the local councilors and MLAs.
