Delhi Police Arrests Domestic Help and Goldsmith in Jangpura Jewelry Theft

A shocking theft has come to light in the Jangpura area of South East Delhi. A temporary domestic help, recently employed, made off with jewelry and cash worth lakhs of rupees from the house. The accused, Meenakshi, a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad, fled after the theft. However, due to the vigilance of the police and the help of CCTV footage, she couldn't stay out of the clutches of the law for long.

After the incident came to light, the victim family filed a complaint with the police, on the basis of which a case was registered and action was initiated. When the Delhi Police team examined the CCTV footage around the crime scene, suspicion deepened about Meenakshi's activities. Following this, the police raided Meenakshi's hideout in the Loni area of Ghaziabad, where she confessed to the theft during intense questioning.

Goldsmith who sold the stolen jewelry also arrested

Meenakshi told the police that she had stolen gold jewelry from the house in Jangpura and sold it to a goldsmith in Bhogal Bazar. Based on this information, the police immediately raided the goldsmith's shop and arrested a goldsmith named Pramod Gupta. From his shop, five gold bangles, a gold chain, two pendants, and a pair of gold earrings were recovered.

In this entire case, DCP South East Delhi, Aishwarya Sharma, confirmed that the accused Meenakshi is 37 years old and a resident of Loni, while the goldsmith Pramod Gupta (65) runs a shop in the Bhogal area. Both the accused are being interrogated and a search is also underway for other people involved in the theft.

Employed for just a few days

According to information, the complainant's permanent domestic help had gone on leave for some time, so they had temporarily employed Meenakshi a few days earlier. On June 21, when Meenakshi suddenly did not come to work without any information, the family realized that gold ornaments and cash worth lakhs of rupees were missing from the house.

The family immediately lodged a complaint at the Jangpura Extension police station, after which a case was registered under the relevant sections of the IPC and the police started investigating. Considering the seriousness of the matter, a special team was formed under the leadership of SHO Pankaj Kumar, which was being supervised by ACP Mihir Sakaria. The team included SI Arun, SI Paras, Head Constables Kulwinder and Ravinder, Constable Karan, and Woman Constable Vandana.

Cash and foreign currency found at the house

During police interrogation, Meenakshi revealed that she had planned this incident in advance. She knew that she was employed for only a few days, so she decided to take advantage of this opportunity. She planned to steal the jewelry from the owner's locker and carried out the incident accordingly.

From Meenakshi's hideout, the police have seized ₹2.52 lakh in cash along with 13 foreign currency notes. Authorities suspect that other stolen jewelry may have been sold through the accused goldsmith, for which an investigation is underway. Both the accused have been arrested and are being interrogated and it is also being seen whether any organized gang is working behind this theft.

Thorough investigation of temporary domestic helps is necessary

This case is not only a common theft incident, but it also shows how the risk can increase from temporary employees in homes. Experts say that a thorough background check of any employee is necessary before hiring them.

The Delhi Police, taking this case as a warning, has also appealed to the general public to register information about new domestic employees at the local police station before hiring them. This can prevent such incidents to a great extent.
