Delhi NCR Grapples with Heavy Rain: Traffic Jams and Flood Alert Issued

Delhi and NCR experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday (August 27), leading to extensive traffic jams and waterlogging on several routes. The Yamuna River's water level crossed the warning level, prompting authorities to issue a warning for vigilance.

Delhi Rains Alert: On Wednesday (August 27, 2025) morning, Delhi and Noida were hit by sudden heavy rainfall, disrupting the city's lifestyle. Due to the heavy rain, many main roads experienced long traffic jams, leaving people heading to offices or essential tasks stuck for hours. The Meteorological Department had already predicted the possibility of b winds and rain, which served as a warning sign for the residents of the capital.

Waterlogging also began on many roads during the rain, causing difficulties for people in commuting. People, especially in busy areas and routes, had to wait for a long time. Residents of the capital were advised to travel carefully during rain and waterlogged conditions.

Traffic Jam at Mayapuri Red Light Due to Rain

Vehicles remained stuck in a traffic jam for about 20 minutes at the red light in the Mayapuri area of Delhi. People informed the traffic police through social media, after which the concerned traffic inspector was immediately alerted.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 24.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.9 degrees below the seasonal average temperature. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was recorded at 92 percent until 8.30 am, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 69, which falls under the satisfactory category.

Danger from Rising Water Level of Yamuna in Delhi

The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi crossed the warning level on Tuesday. The water level at the Old Railway Bridge (O.R.B) reached 204.56 meters at 9 pm, while it was 204.58 meters at 9 am. The Central Water Commission issued a flood warning, instructing all officials to remain alert and take necessary steps in sensitive areas.

According to official information, plans are being made to move people living near the river embankments to safer locations. The administration and disaster management teams have increased surveillance throughout the area.

Traffic Jam in Delhi-Noida Due to Heavy Rain

Due to heavy rain and waterlogging, long traffic jams were seen on many major roads in Delhi and Noida. People going out for office and essential work were stuck for hours. Experts say that it is very important to travel carefully and on time in such weather.

In some areas, vehicles were moving at a slow pace due to waterlogging. The administration has appealed to the citizens to use routes with less traffic and to stay away from risky low-lying areas during the rain.

Rain and Strong Winds for 48 Hours in Delhi-NCR

According to the IMD, there is a possibility of b winds and rain in Delhi-NCR for the next 24 to 48 hours. People are appealed to continuously watch the weather updates and remain alert in areas affected by waterlogging and floods.

The Meteorological Department has also said that citizens are advised to stay in safe places and avoid unnecessary going out. The administration has activated disaster management teams and is monitoring the water level.
