Rampuri criminal Akib, who looted a grocery store in Seelampur, Delhi, arrested in an encounter. Injured in the leg by police retaliatory fire, stolen bike and pistol recovered, case of attempted murder registered.
New Delhi: The robbery and firing incident that took place on Monday night in Delhi's Seelampur area has once again raised questions about the rising crime in the city. Police arrested 25-year-old criminal Akib from Rampur district in an encounter near Yamuna Khadar. Akib was shot in the leg during the encounter and admitted to the hospital. A pistol, two spent cartridges, and a stolen bike were also recovered in this operation.
Robbery at Gunpoint in Store
According to the police, on the night of September 22, around 10 PM, three unidentified individuals suddenly entered a grocery store in Gautampuri Lane No. 9, Seelampur. They attempted to extort money from the shopkeeper at gunpoint. When the shopkeeper resisted, the criminals fired shots to intimidate him and then fled the scene.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police immediately reached the spot. Police began identifying the suspects with the help of CCTV footage near the shop and local intelligence. The firing and robbery at the shop created an atmosphere of fear in the area.
Akib Arrested After Firing
Police stated that during the investigation, it was discovered that the accused Akib was repeatedly seen in the Yamuna Khadar area. On the night of September 23, police received information that he was about to arrive near the Third Pushta on a bike. Police attempted to stop him, but Akib fled and, in the process, pulled out a pistol and fired at the police.
In retaliatory firing, a police bullet hit Akib in the leg. During this, one bullet grazed Constable Rocky, while another hit Constable Navneesh's bulletproof vest. Police immediately took him into custody and sent him to the hospital. Subsequently, New Usmanpur Police registered a case under attempted murder and the Arms Act.
Recovered Items Include Weapon and Stolen Bike
After the encounter, police recovered a pistol, two spent cartridges, and a stolen bike from the accused. The investigation also revealed that Akib had previously carried out several other robberies and is a notorious criminal from Rampur district.
Police stated that security in the area has been increased given the activities of Akib and his associates. Police are now searching for the remaining accomplices to completely dismantle this gang and restore a sense of security among the public.
Police Action and Further Investigation
Seelampur Police stated that Akib's arrest and the encounter have brought crime under control in the area. Police assured the shopkeeper and local residents that they are investigating thoroughly and will leave no stone unturned in bringing the criminals to justice.
Officials also informed that the investigation of CCTV footage in the area is ongoing, and police have increased patrolling in the surrounding vicinity. Furthermore, raids and searches are being conducted at the potential hideouts of the accused. Police believe that the entire gang will be exposed soon, and peace will be established in the area.
