A decomposed body was found in a water tank located on the 5th floor of Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh.
Water from this tank was supplied to the hospital's OPD and ward buildings for approximately 10 days.
The body was discovered inside the tank after complaints of a foul smell led to an inspection.
The deceased was identified as 61-year-old Ashok Gawande.
College Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar Barnwal was suspended, and Dr. Rajni was appointed as the acting principal.
District Magistrate Divya Mittal was appointed as the inquiry officer. A five-member investigation committee was also formed.
The preliminary post-mortem report stated the cause of death as asphyxia.
Police are trying to ascertain whether it was a case of murder, suicide, or accident, and how the body ended up in the tank.
The incident involving the murder of chemical engineer Ashok Gawande on October 6 and the subsequent dumping of his body into a water tank in the new OPD of Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria has come to light.
Considering this incident a pre-planned murder, the police have registered a case of murder against unknown individuals and have initiated an investigation.
Preliminary investigation suggests that “four to five people” might be involved in this murder.
The deceased's wife, Anita Gawande, was summoned to the police station to record her statement. However, she did not appear to give a statement the first time. Later, the police station sent Inspector Vinod Kumar Singh to the home of the deceased's brother-in-law (Praful Nagarkar), where Anita's statement was recorded.
Police suspect that there might be inconsistencies between the statements of the wife and the brother-in-law, and further investigation is being conducted based on these statements.
