Deoria: The Basic Education Department has taken a strict stance regarding negligence in academic work within the district. The salaries of head teachers, assistant teachers, and other staff of 30 council and aided schools have been withheld until further notice.
According to the Basic Education Officer, the bank accounts of parents of students attending these schools could not be linked with Aadhaar, preventing the direct transfer of funds for government schemes into their accounts. The government sends funds for items such as school bags, shoes and socks, and sweaters, directly to students’ accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Departmental data indicates that, out of a total of 7900 students in the 30 schools concerned, the bank accounts of 866 parents have not yet been seeded with Aadhaar. This action was taken due to the failure to complete the task on time, despite instructions from higher authorities.
It has been reported that the salaries of all staff members in schools with more than 20 unlinked student accounts have been withheld, while warnings have been issued to schools with fewer than 20 such cases.
The Basic Education Department has clarified that the situation will be reviewed once the accounts are linked with Aadhaar, and a further decision will be taken thereafter. The purpose of this action is stated to be improving the implementation of government schemes and ensuring accountability.
