DU Reservation Rules: Before the admission process begins for the new academic session at Delhi University, the university has clarified that the benefit of reservation for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories will only be available upon submission of valid and latest certificates. DU, one of the largest central universities in the country, adheres to the central government's reservation policy and does not provide additional time for students of any category to submit documents. Admissions are based on merit and eligibility, and students whose merit places them in the general list are not included in the reserved seats.
Reservation Quotas at DU
A total of 22.5% of seats are reserved for SC and ST students at Delhi University. Of these, 15% are designated for SC students and 7.5% for ST students. For eligibility, passing marks are considered sufficient for SC/ST students. Where admissions are based on an entrance test, separate merit lists are prepared for these categories. A relaxation of up to 5% is provided in the cut-off, and further concessions may be given if necessary. If seats remain vacant, SC seats may be converted to ST seats and vice-versa, but there is no compulsion to fill all seats.
27% of seats are reserved for the OBC category at DU. OBC students receive a relaxation of up to 10% in eligibility marks. However, the OBC certificate must be for the non-creamy layer and must belong to a caste included in the Central Government's list. If a student does not have a new certificate by the time of registration, an old certificate or application slip can be uploaded, but presenting a non-creamy layer certificate for the current year is mandatory at the time of admission.
EWS Category Rules and Required Certificates
10% of seats are reserved at DU for EWS, i.e., Economically Weaker Sections. This reservation is provided solely under the rules prescribed by the Central Government. The EWS certificate must also be issued by the same authorized officers who can issue SC/ST/OBC certificates.
It is essential for EWS category candidates that their certificate is up-to-date and issued according to central government standards. It must clearly state that the family's annual income is below the prescribed limit and that the candidate falls under the EWS category. If students fail to present an updated certificate on time, they will not be granted the benefits of that category.
Admission Rules with Reservation
If a student from a reserved category gets selected in the general list based on merit, they are not included in the reserved seats. This is part of DU's fairness and merit-based admission process.
The university also clarifies that no additional time will be given under any circumstances for submitting or updating certificates during admissions. Therefore, students are advised to keep all their documents complete before the admission process begins.
