Sports News: The England women's cricket team has suffered another setback after a humiliating defeat in the first T20 match against India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the England team 10 percent of their match fees for a slow over rate. In the first T20 match played in Nottingham on Saturday, the England team bowled two overs fewer than the allotted time.
Due to this, the ICC imposed this penalty, citing Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct for players and support staff. According to this article, a penalty of 5 percent is imposed for each over not bowled within the stipulated time. England fell short by two overs, so a total fine of 10 percent was imposed.
Sciver-Brunt admits mistake
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted the charges against her and agreed to the punishment, due to which the ICC did not need to hold a formal hearing. Match referee Helen Pack, under the supervision of on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams and James Middlebrook, third umpire Sue Redfern, and fourth umpire Anna Harris, laid the charges and confirmed the fine.
ICC's stern message
The ICC said in its official statement, "Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a penalty of 5% is imposed for each over that a team fails to bowl within the stipulated time." This statement makes it clear that the ICC will not tolerate any leniency in over rate, whether it is men's cricket or women's.
