EPFO has now launched an online correction facility for incorrect Member IDs linked to UAN. This allows employees to rectify errors in their PF accounts from the comfort of their homes. Linking incorrect Member IDs can lead to issues with PF balance, transfers, and pension calculations.
EPFO: Often, when changing jobs, an incorrect Member ID gets linked to your UAN, affecting your PF balance and service history. Now, employees can correct this mistake by logging in online through the ‘De-link Member ID’ option on the EPFO website. After reviewing the application, EPFO will remove the incorrect ID, resolving issues with withdrawals, transfers, and pension calculations.
PF Affected by Incorrect Member ID
UAN, or Universal Account Number, is a unique 12-digit number issued by EPFO to every employee. This number consolidates all information related to your PF account. Upon changing jobs, each new employer assigns a different Member ID. All these Member IDs are linked under your UAN.
Occasionally, companies may mistakenly issue a new UAN when an employee changes jobs, or an incorrect Member ID might get linked to an existing UAN. This can lead to your PF balance not reflecting correctly and cause problems with withdrawals. Your entire PF service history can also be impacted.
Online Correction from Home
EPFO has now introduced a digital facility that allows employees to de-link any incorrectly linked Member ID from their UAN online. This means there is no longer a need to visit offices or repeatedly fill out forms.
First, visit the official EPFO website and log in with your UAN. After logging in, you will find the ‘De-link Member ID’ option. Select this option and apply to de-link the incorrect Member ID. EPFO will investigate your complaint and then remove the incorrect ID from your UAN.
Disadvantages of Incorrect Member ID Linking
When an incorrect Member ID is linked to a UAN, your PF balance may not be displayed accurately. This causes problems with withdrawals or transfers. Furthermore, pension calculations can also be erroneous, potentially leading to financial losses in the future.
In addition, incorrect Member IDs can create discrepancies in the PF service history. This may lead to difficulties in claiming PF, pension, or retirement benefits in the future. Previously, in such cases, a lengthy process at the EPFO office was required, but the online facility has now made it easier.
EPFO's Digital Initiative
This new facility from EPFO provides digital relief to employees. It not only saves time but also makes it easier to correct errors. Employees can now review their PF account from their mobile or computer at any time and make corrections immediately if they find any mistakes.
To avail this facility, employees need to log in to the EPFO website using their UAN and password. After logging in, a list of all active Member IDs is displayed. If any ID is incorrectly linked, you can select it and choose the option to de-link. EPFO investigates the application upon receipt and takes necessary action.
Message to Employees
This initiative by EPFO has given employees an opportunity to correct errors in their PF accounts. This facility is particularly important for those who faced difficulties in transferring funds or making claims due to discrepancies in their UAN and Member IDs. The digital process not only saves time but also gives employees control over their PF accounts.
