Experts Warn of UPI Security Risks Amidst Surge in Digital Transactions

UPI transactions are rapidly increasing in the country, but negligence in security can pose a serious threat to bank accounts. Experts say that sharing your PIN with an unknown person, accepting suspicious payment requests, or scanning fake QR codes are the main reasons for becoming a target of cybercriminals. It is safe to use only official apps.

UPI Security Alert: Amidst the rapidly growing cashless transactions in the country, experts have advised users to remain vigilant. People are using UPI at home, college, and restaurants, but sharing their PIN with strangers, accepting suspicious payment requests, or scanning fake QR codes can pose risks to bank accounts. Experts state that it is essential to use only official and trusted apps to prevent cyber fraud.

Exercise Caution in UPI Transactions

Cashless payments are rapidly increasing in the country, and UPI has become the most popular medium. From college fees to restaurant bills, people are using UPI everywhere. However, negligence in security can lead to serious threats. Experts say that cybercriminals can easily target bank accounts with small mistakes.

Do Not Share Your UPI PIN with Unknown Individuals

Never share your UPI PIN with any unknown person through phone calls, messages, or other means. Doing so grants direct access to your bank account. Remember, banks or government officials will never ask for your PIN for any work. If someone claims to be from a bank or government official and asks for your PIN, it is a clear sign of fraud.

Be Cautious with Payment Requests and QR Code Scans

The UPI payment request feature is generally used on e-commerce platforms. However, if a payment request comes from an unknown person or a suspicious website, it should be rejected immediately. Similarly, not all QR codes are secure. Cybercriminals can deceive people by placing fake QR codes. Exercise caution when scanning QR codes in public places and, if in doubt, use an alternative trusted method for payment.

Use Only Official Apps

Always use official apps for UPI transactions or other banking activities. Do not download apps by falling for unknown links or offers. Such apps can steal your bank details, passwords, and personal information. Download apps only from trusted and official platforms.
