India and England are currently engaged in a five-Test match series, with India trailing 1-2. The fourth Test match between the two teams will now be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting July 23rd.
IND vs ENG 4th Test: The fourth match of the ongoing five-Test series between India and England will be held at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester from July 23rd. On the first day of this match, former Indian legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Farokh Engineer and former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd will be given a special honor.
The historic Lancashire Cricket Club of England has decided to name stands at Old Trafford Stadium after these two legendary players. This honor will not only be for Farokh Engineer's career achievements but also for his years of service to the Lancashire club.
Farokh Engineer's Historic Contribution to Lancashire Club
Farokh Engineer is considered one of the finest wicketkeeper-batsmen in Indian cricket history. He not only performed brilliantly in Test cricket for India but also proved his mettle in English county cricket. From 1968 to 1976, Farokh Engineer played 175 matches for Lancashire. During this time, he scored 5942 runs, took 429 catches, and made 35 stumpings.
When Engineer joined Lancashire, the club had not won a major title for 15 years. However, with Farokh Engineer present, the team created history by winning the Gillette Cup four times between 1970 and 1975. Engineer changed the fortunes of the Lancashire Cricket Club during his career and became an icon in English domestic cricket.
Clive Lloyd Will Also Receive Similar Honor
The Lancashire club has decided not only to honor Farokh Engineer but also West Indies legend Clive Lloyd at the same ceremony. Clive Lloyd joined Lancashire in the 1970s and changed the club's fortunes with his aggressive batting. Lloyd stayed with the club for nearly two decades, leading Lancashire to several achievements and establishing himself as one of the club's most successful overseas players.
Farokh Engineer has very deep memories with Old Trafford. He said in an interview, "Old Trafford was the place where the real passion for cricket was felt. People used to come from miles away to watch us play. From the dressing room, we could see the railway station, where people standing were joking and chanting slogans."
The experience Engineer gained while playing for Lancashire in England was reflected in his maturity and confidence in Indian cricket as well. Even after retirement, Farokh Engineer made Manchester his permanent home and still lives there.
Why is Lancashire Club's Decision Historic?
The Lancashire Club's decision is also significant because it continues the tradition of honoring players who have taken the club to new heights. A senior source at the club said, "Farokh Engineer and Clive Lloyd have both been true heroes of Lancashire. This is a way for the club to express its gratitude to them."
