Maulana Sajid Rashidi's troubles have escalated following a controversial remark made about Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav. An FIR has been registered against Rashidi, the President of the All India Imam Association, at the Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow. Juhi Singh, a party leader leading the SP's women's wing, went to the police station and filed a written complaint against the Maulana. The complaint alleges that Rashidi used insulting and objectionable language for Dimple Yadav during a TV debate.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the Maulana under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act (IT Act). The party has described the statement as not only malicious but also against the dignity of women. The entire matter has caused a stir in political circles.
Opportunity for Apology Given
Speaking to the media, SP leader Juhi Singh said that the party had given the Maulana time to apologize, but he did not express remorse. Juhi Singh stated, "The language used against our MP is unacceptable. We initially demanded an apology from him, but when there was no response, we resorted to legal action. Now, this legal action will proceed."
The SP women's wing has made it clear that there will be no compromise with the dignity of women and that a strict stance will be adopted in such cases.
TV Debate Becomes Cause of Controversy
The whole controversy started when Maulana Sajid Rashidi commented on Dimple Yadav's attire during a TV debate. He made objectionable remarks about her clothing, calling it anti-Islamic, in a Delhi mosque. As soon as his statement went viral on social media, not only the SP but also several other political parties and social organizations protested against it. Demands were also made for the Maulana to publicly apologize.
Verbal Sparring Intensifies Among Political Parties
Politics has also heated up after the Maulana's remark. The BJP has taken the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav to task over this issue. BJP leaders have alleged that Akhilesh Yadav is silent on this matter because he does not want to upset the Muslim vote bank. Regarding this, BJP MPs also protested outside the Parliament House on Monday in support of Dimple Yadav.
Legal Action Commenced
In the FIR registered at the Vibhutikhand police station in Lucknow, Maulana Sajid Rashidi has been charged under sections of the BNS and the IT Act. According to the police, the matter is serious and further action will be taken after investigation. The SP women's wing says that this is not just a matter of one MP or party, but a question of the dignity of women.
This development makes it clear that political parties and society will no longer tolerate comments made on public platforms, especially when they are related to the dignity of women.
