Bus Collides with Divider on NH-9 Early Morning
On Wednesday morning around 4 AM, a private bus heading from Haldwani to Delhi was proceeding towards the DME in the Wave City area on NH-9. As the bus approached the divider, the driver dozed off, causing the bus to lose control and crash directly into the divider.
The front of the bus was severely damaged in the accident. Fortunately, a major tragedy was averted, and no fatalities occurred. The narrow width of the accident site and the driver's fatigue further increased the likelihood of the accident.
13 Passengers Injured in Bus Accident
In this accident, a total of 13 passengers were injured, including the driver, Subodh, from Bulandshahr, and the co-driver, Monu. The injured passengers include residents of Haridwar, Bareilly, Nainital, Delhi, and Bageshwar in Uttarakhand.
Police admitted all the injured to a local hospital. The condition of two passengers is reported to be serious, while others have been stabilized after receiving first aid. The police arrived at the scene, removed the bus, and cleared the traffic.
Driver's Drowsiness and Road Safety Issue
Retired DSP Traffic PP Karnwal says that dozing off while driving at night or early morning is a common cause. In accidents that occur on highways in the early morning, 90% of the cases are due to drowsiness or fatigue.
Experts advise getting adequate sleep before a long journey, resting by the roadside if you feel tired, and taking breaks from time to time during long drives. Also, a co-driver should be seated nearby to pay attention to the driving.
Accident Investigation and Administrative Action
The police have launched a thorough investigation into the entire matter. All aspects of the accident are being investigated, including the driver's condition, the technical inspection of the bus, and the cause due to road width.
The administration cleared traffic at the accident site and ensured the safety of the injured passengers. To prevent such accidents in the future, adherence to driving rules on highways and road safety measures will be further strengthened.
