Ghazipur: 1439 Kg Adulterated Desi Ghee Seized from Agarwal Sweets Factory Ahead of Diwali

In Ghazipur, the Food Safety Department seized 1439 kg of adulterated desi ghee from Agarwal Sweets factory in Mahuabagh before Diwali. Its value is approximately Rs 9.35 lakh. Samples of the ghee have been sent to the lab for testing.

Ghazipur: In view of the Diwali festival, the Ghazipur administration has taken major action against adulterators. 1439 kg of adulterated desi ghee was seized from the Agarwal Sweets factory located in Mahuabagh. According to officials, the market value of this ghee is estimated to be approximately Rs 9.35 lakh. The raid was informed by the Food Safety and Drug Administration team. They stated that a sample of the ghee has been sent to the lab for testing. Further action will be decided only after the report is received.

Shocking Findings During Investigation

Under the direction of District Magistrate Avinash Kumar, a team led by SDM Sadar Ravish Gupta conducted an inspection at the factory for one and a half to two hours. The investigation revealed that the desi ghee sold under the brand name Prem Ji was not pure.

Assistant Food Commissioner Ramesh Chandra Pandey stated that the ghee was completely liquid, whereas pure desi ghee should be semi-solid. This clearly indicates that the ghee was adulterated.

Sweet Preparations and Other Inspections

The team also observed approximately 500 kg of prepared sweets in the factory, though no samples were taken. Several officials, including Chief Food Safety Officer Suman Kumar Mishra, were present at the site.

Factory employees could not provide a satisfactory answer regarding the quality of the ghee. Local residents praised the administration's action but questioned how many other shops might be involved in adulteration during festivals.

Administration Warns Adulterators

The administration has clarified that such raids will continue until Diwali to ensure people receive pure and safe food items. Furthermore, strict action will be taken against adulterators. The Food Safety Department has appealed to the public to immediately inform officials about any suspicious sweets or ghee and to purchase only from certified shops.
