New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips shared a video on social media on Tuesday, 17 March, showing himself piloting and landing an aircraft on a runway.
In the video, Phillips is seen landing the aircraft safely, demonstrating control and composure. His professionalism and confidence are visible in the footage. A few days earlier, he had also shared images from a flying school, where he was seen undergoing training and interacting with students.
Phillips stated that becoming a pilot has been a long-standing interest. He said, “Yes, it is a big passion of mine. If I were not playing cricket and had all the money in the world growing up, I probably would have been a pilot. I love being in the air and ideally I would love to fly in the mountains. If I had to work, being a pilot would be my first choice.”

In an interview, Phillips said financial constraints limited his opportunities to pursue aviation. He said cricket opened a different career and earning pathway, but with sufficient resources, he would have pursued his interest in aviation further.
Phillips is set to play for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, having been retained by the franchise for Rs 2 crore. In the 2023 IPL season, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. His inclusion in the playing XI for the upcoming season remains to be seen.
