An encounter took place between liquor smugglers and the police in Gopalganj. Notorious smuggler Saddam Hussain was injured in the retaliatory firing by the police. 21 cartons of liquor and weapons were recovered, including a Scorpio vehicle, while two smugglers managed to escape.
Gopalganj: In a crackdown on liquor smugglers in Bihar's Gopalganj district on Friday morning, the police conducted an encounter. Notorious liquor smuggler Saddam Hussain was injured in this shootout that occurred at Jalalpur Bhathwan Mod in Kuchaykot police station area. The police seized a Scorpio vehicle and 21 cartons of liquor and arrested one accused, while two others fled.
Police Action Against Illegal Liquor Smuggling in Gopalganj
Gopalganj SP Awadhesh Dixit stated that the police received a tip-off that a large quantity of illegal liquor was being brought into Bihar from UP. Based on this information, Kuchaykot police began monitoring vehicles coming from Uttar Pradesh.
All teams were alerted and a special checking campaign was launched. During this, the police spotted a suspicious Scorpio vehicle at Jalalpur Bhathwan Mod. When an attempt was made to stop the vehicle, the criminals inside opened fire on the police.
One Injured in Encounter with Liquor Smugglers
After the liquor smugglers opened fire, the police immediately retaliated. Saddam Hussain was shot and injured in this encounter. The injured smuggler was immediately admitted to the emergency ward of Sadar Hospital by the police.
A major accident was averted due to the police's prompt retaliatory action. Two other smugglers escaped from the spot by taking advantage of the darkness. Officials stated that raids are ongoing throughout the area to apprehend them.
Liquor and Weapons Seized
During the search of the Scorpio vehicle, the police recovered 21 cartons of illegal liquor. In addition, the police seized a country-made pistol, one cartridge, and one spent casing from the scene. Interrogation of the arrested smuggler is underway, and information related to his other cases is being gathered.
In recent times, the police have been conducting special campaigns in Gopalganj to curb liquor smuggling. Under this campaign, regular raids and vehicle checks are being carried out to stop the supply of illegal liquor in the district.

SP Awadhesh Dixit stated that this action is a success for the police and will significantly curb liquor smuggling in the district. He added that such campaigns will continue to establish the rule of law.
The police have appealed to the public to immediately report any information about illegal liquor or suspicious activities to the police. Furthermore, raids and patrolling have been intensified across the district to apprehend the absconding smugglers. This will help prevent such incidents in the future.
