Gorakhpur Begins Verification of 12.37 Lakh Potential Duplicate Voters Ahead of Panchayat Polls

In Gorakhpur, preparations to update the electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections have intensified. The process to identify and verify duplicate voters has begun in the district.

Treating Gorakhpur district as a single unit, the Election Commission has released a list of 12.37 lakh potential duplicate voters. The list includes voters whose names, fathers’ or husbands’ names, and other details are identical, as well as cases where the same name has been found registered in more than one gram panchayat.

All such cases will be verified through door-to-door checks. The responsibility for verification has been assigned to Booth Level Officers, who will examine voter identity cards and other documents during the process.

Following verification, the name of the genuine voter will be retained in the electoral roll, while duplicate entries will be removed. The administration stated that the objective of the exercise is to ensure that the voter list is transparent, error-free, and reliable before the panchayat elections, so that the electoral process can be conducted fairly.
