Durga Immersion Ponds in Gorakhpur Become Unexpected Coin Treasure Trove for Children
Last Updated: 3 hour ago

The artificial ponds created during the Durga idol immersion ceremony held on the banks of the Rapti in **Gorakhpur** proved to be an unexpected treasure trove for children. On Sunday, many children were seen diving into these ponds, collecting coins offered as part of the rituals. Some children even managed to collect coins worth 1000 to 1500 rupees. Although sharp objects were also found in the ponds after the immersion, fortunately, no child was injured.

The Municipal Corporation deployed a team of 50 employees for the cleaning of the ponds after the immersion. They thoroughly cleaned the ponds by removing bamboo poles, pieces of wood, and other waste materials. Villagers also collected sarees, chunaris (scarves), and bamboo poles, which they will use for their own needs.

The Municipal Corporation had constructed a total of five artificial ponds – three on the banks of the Rapti River, and one each in Domingarh and Maheshra – where approximately 1300 idols were immersed. The corporation's team had been engaged in removing waste materials from the ponds since Friday, following the immersion. Waste materials were continuously loaded into six tractor trolleys and set aside, and by Sunday, the ponds were completely cleaned.

This incident provided an unexpected opportunity for joy for the children, and the Municipal Corporation's cleaning efforts were appreciated.
