The menace of dogs is increasing in Haldwani. In the Kathgharia area, a dog bit 9-year-old Rahul. The injured child, bleeding profusely, was taken to Base Hospital, where he was given an anti-rabies vaccine. The child's father, Sarvesh, stated that the dog that bit him was vaccinated, but the child continued to cry out in pain for a long time. He was immediately taken to the hospital. According to D.B. Pant, the hospital's Pharmacy Officer, approximately 30 new bite cases and about 80 old cases are reported at the hospital daily.
This year, over 4000 people are coming for vaccinations each month, whereas last year this number was approximately 3000 per month. Most cases involve bites by pet dogs.
