The recent series of mild tremors in Haryana has caused concern among residents. The recurring earthquakes in the districts of Rohtak and Jhajjar have not only frightened local residents but have also created a sense of panic among the people of Delhi-NCR. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earth has shaken four times within a 40-kilometer radius of Haryana since July 10th, with intensities exceeding 2.5.
Earthquake Strikes Rohtak Late at Night
The latest incident occurred late Wednesday night in the Rohtak district, where a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 12:46 AM. The epicenter was 17 kilometers east of Rohtak and 10 kilometers deep. Tremors were felt for 2 to 5 seconds in Kheri Sampla, Kharkhoda, and surrounding areas. The jolts were so intense that people sleeping at night panicked and rushed out of their homes to open spaces. However, there were no reports of any loss of life or property.
Two Earthquakes in Jhajjar in Two Days
On July 10th, two tremors were felt in the Jhajjar district within a mere two-minute interval. The first tremor occurred at 9:04 AM and the second at 9:06 AM. Their magnitudes were measured at 4.4 and 3.7 on the Richter scale, respectively. The next day, on July 11th, an earthquake was also recorded in the area. The impact of these tremors was felt in Delhi and NCR as well, causing panic among the residents of the capital region. The consistent earthquakes have made it clear that this area is becoming increasingly seismically sensitive.
Delhi-NCR also a High-Risk Zone
Earlier, on February 17th, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake was also felt in Delhi-NCR. The epicenter was near Dhaula Kuan, 9 kilometers east of New Delhi, and 5 kilometers deep. The tremors, which occurred at 5:36 AM, were so b that people woke up from their sleep and immediately came out of their homes. According to experts, Delhi falls under seismic zone IV, which is considered a high-risk zone. This means that there is always a possibility of moderate to b earthquakes occurring here.
Fear is Growing Among People
The continuous earthquakes are creating an atmosphere of fear among the people of Haryana and Delhi-NCR. Experts say that the seismic activity in the region needs to be taken seriously. It is time to make homes earthquake-resistant, adopt earthquake safety measures, and increase awareness about precautions to be taken during an earthquake.
