These changes stated that the company could use the content uploaded by users for actions such as "reproduction, distribution, modification, and creating derivative works based on it." Along with this, the company has made changes to its terms of service and removed the sections related to machine learning and commercial use.

WeTransfer made some significant changes in the new terms of service, which came into effect on August 8:
- All references to machine learning and AI have been removed.
- The section stating that the company could reuse user content without compensation has also been removed.
- The company reiterated that it does not take ownership of your content and that all your intellectual property rights will remain with you.

This controversy once again showed how large digital companies try to gain additional control over user data by changing the terms of service. The WeTransfer case is not unique. Earlier, Dropbox in 2023 and Adobe in 2024 also had to provide clarifications regarding user data and AI training issues.
