Himachal Pradesh Floods: Heavy Rainfall Causes Devastation in Seraj Area

Heavy devastation was caused by heavy rainfall in the Seraj area of Himachal Pradesh on June 30. Over 3000 people were affected, many houses developed cracks, and the school building is also at risk.

Himachal Flood: The torrential rain that occurred on June 30 in the Seraj assembly constituency of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, has caused massive destruction. The Kandhi Panchayat of Lower Seraj has been the most affected by this rainfall. The connecting road from Saroa Kainchi to Daran, Handocha, and Kotlu has been broken in many places. About 3000 people's daily lives have been affected by this disaster and more than 200 houses have come under threat.

Small streams turned into floods

Due to the rain, two small streams suddenly turned into floods. This destroyed crops standing in the surrounding fields and washed away pedestrian paths. Debris entered many houses, while cracks appeared in the courtyards and walls of many others. About Rs 10 lakh worth of shuttering belonging to Khem Chand, a resident of Handocha village, was washed away in the Khaloun stream.

Damage to houses, school also in danger

Netra Singh, the head of Kandhi Panchayat, said that about eight houses in his panchayat have developed serious cracks. Debris has filled the houses of many people and retaining walls have collapsed.

The affected families by this natural disaster include Sher Singh, Bakshi Ram, Tilak Raj, Uttam Chand, Jaspal, Vimala Devi, Fate Ram, Jeet Pal and Khem Chand. Many houses in other villages of the panchayat have also become unsafe.

The school in Daran village is also in danger. A part of its building has collapsed and the ground has been completely destroyed. Concerns among parents have increased regarding the safety of children.

Connecting routes completely disrupted

Due to the breaking of the main connecting road in the area, people are having to carry their daily necessities like ration and medicines on their backs. So far, neither any immediate relief has been provided by the administration nor has any permanent solution been made.

Administrative inspection, but relief work zero

The affected people said that so far only the Patwari and the Panchayat head have inspected the spot. Although the report has been sent to the administration, no concrete action has been taken on the ground yet.

Appeal from villagers

Local villagers have demanded immediate relief and compensation from the administration. They say that if the roads are not repaired and protective measures are not taken soon, the situation could become even more serious. Khem Chand said that if the administration does not take immediate steps, there could be heavy loss of life and property.
