Heavy Rainfall and Landslides in Himachal Pradesh Following Monsoon Onset

Himachal Pradesh Landslides: The monsoon arrived in Himachal Pradesh seven days ahead of schedule this year. Torrential rain on Friday morning impacted several parts of the state, causing widespread landslides and road disruptions. Reports of landslides and waterlogging are continuously emerging from Shimla, Mandi, Dharamshala, and other districts.

Debris Falls on Vehicle in Shimla

In the Jatoli area of Shimla, a pickup truck was completely damaged after being struck by debris. The incident occurred in the morning when a landslide, triggered by sudden rainfall, engulfed the vehicle parked by the roadside. Fortunately, no one was inside the vehicle at the time.

Major Roadways Disrupted

A section of the Tauni-Hatkoti road in the Upper Shimla area collapsed due to a landslide, affecting traffic. The Dharamshala-Chatro-Gaggal road is also closed due to a landslide. Relief efforts are underway to reopen the roads.

Waterlogging in Schools

Shaheed Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh, Mandi district, experienced severe waterlogging. Rainwater inundated the school premises, causing significant inconvenience to students.

Weather Department Issues Alert

The local meteorological center has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Himachal Pradesh for the coming week. An 'orange alert' has been declared for June 22nd, 23rd, 25th, and 26th, while a 'yellow alert' is in place for June 24th. The weather department has indicated that this situation may persist for several days.

Rainfall Data

Rainfall data from various parts of the state shows that Nahan received the highest rainfall at 84.7 mm. Pandoh recorded 35 mm, Slapper 26.3 mm, Srawan 20.5 mm, Paonta Sahib 19.8 mm, Jogindernagar 19 mm, Pachhad 17.2 mm, Rampur 15.6 mm, and Gohar 15 mm. Sundernagar, Shimla, and Kangra experienced thunderstorms, while Bajaura saw b winds at 37 kilometers per hour.

Landslide and Waterlogging Warning

The meteorological department has issued a clear warning about the potential for landslides, mudslides, and waterlogging in the mid and lower hilly regions of the state due to heavy rainfall. Weak structures in lower areas may be partially damaged. Drivers are advised to exercise caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
