The ICC has made changes to the schedule of the Women's ODI World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been stripped of hosting rights and will no longer host any matches.
Sports News: The ICC has announced a significant change to the schedule of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 30th next month. The international cricket body has withdrawn hosting rights from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and awarded them to the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The ICC officially announced this change in a statement released on Friday.
The Women's ODI World Cup 2025 will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The tournament will be played across a total of five stadiums. Previously, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was slated to host key matches of the tournament, including three league stage matches, one semi-final, and potentially the final match. However, these matches will now be held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Bengaluru Stripped of Hosting Rights
The ICC has clarified the reason for withdrawing hosting rights from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka government deemed the stadium unsafe for hosting matches. This decision was made following a stampede incident during the IPL-2025 celebrations after Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL-2025 title after 17 years.
During the celebrations, a stampede occurred outside the stadium, resulting in the death of 11 people. An investigation into the incident identified the stadium as posing security risks for hosting events. Consequently, the ICC has now assigned the hosting of matches to the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
New Schedule for Women's ODI World Cup 2025
According to the ICC, the tournament will be held between September 30th and November 2nd. Matches will be played in a total of four Indian cities, including:
- Guwahati – ACA Stadium
- Indore – Holkar Stadium
- Visakhapatnam – ACA-VDCA Stadium
- Navi Mumbai – DY Patil Stadium
In addition, the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, will also host matches. All of Pakistan's matches will be held in Sri Lanka, and if Pakistan reaches the final, the title match will also be played in Colombo. The biggest impact of this change will be on the matches originally scheduled to be played in Bengaluru.
If the Indian team had reached the final, they would have played the title match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Now, the final and important league stage matches will be held at the DY Patil Stadium.
