IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Northeast, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra; Monsoon Withdrawal Begins in Northwest

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Northeast India, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra for the next two to three days. The meteorological department has stated that favorable conditions are developing for the withdrawal of the monsoon from Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for torrential rain in several parts of Northeast India and Maharashtra for the next two to three days. According to the department, favorable conditions are developing for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat in the next two days, which could lead to the monsoon becoming active once again in some parts of the country.

Currently, over 21 centimeters of rainfall has been recorded at some places in the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and the Konkan region. Additionally, very heavy rainfall has also occurred in Uttarakhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, and the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, leading to waterlogging and affecting daily life in many areas.

Heavy Rain in Eastern India and Maharashtra

According to the IMD, over 21 centimeters of rainfall was recorded at some places in the sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal and the Konkan region. Furthermore, very heavy rainfall has been recorded in Uttarakhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, and the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Specifically, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for 16 districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Prominent among these districts are Ballia, Gorakhpur, Mau, Deoria, Sant Kabir Nagar, Bahraich, and Faizabad. Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh stated that the southwest monsoon has already begun its withdrawal from Western Rajasthan, three days ahead of its usual date of September 17.

Rain in Uttar Pradesh, Sudden Weather Change in Bihar

Eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience rain and thundershowers for the next two to three days. Western UP is also expected to receive rain at some places on September 16. During this period, rain may be accompanied by lightning and b winds. Due to the low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal and the moisture coming from there, rainfall activities will intensify in the eastern and central parts of the state.

Bihar's weather has changed suddenly. On Sunday, Patna, Gaya, and Jehanabad experienced torrential rain, leading to a sudden darkening of the sky. The IMD has predicted that this situation will continue for the next five days in the state. A warning for thunderstorms, very heavy rain, and lightning strikes has been issued for the capital Patna. According to the meteorological department, heavy rainfall may occur in most districts of the state from September 16 to 19.

Monsoon Withdrawal from Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat

Favorable conditions are developing for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat. The monsoon may become active in these states in the next two to three days, leading to a sudden change in weather. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in Konkan, Goa, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada in Western India until September 16.

Unfavorable weather conditions are expected to persist in various parts of Maharashtra for the next two to three days. A Red Alert has been issued for Mumbai, while Orange Alerts are in place for Pune, Palghar, Ahmednagar, and Beed. Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded at some places in the Konkan region in the past 24 hours.

Rain in Jharkhand and Central India

Jharkhand is likely to experience heavy rainfall for the next few days due to an active system and cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal. A warning for rain with b winds and thunderstorms has been issued for parts of Northwest and Northern Jharkhand on September 17 and 18. Heavy rainfall is predicted for Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand from September 16 to 19.

According to the IMD, the weather in Delhi-NCR will remain partially cloudy with a clear sky from September 16 to 18. The maximum temperature will range between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. However, light rain and cool winds will make the weather pleasant. Continuous rainfall is expected in Northeast India's Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until September 21. This could lead to an increase in river water levels and waterlogging in the region.
