Political equations for the Tarapur seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections are under close observation. The JD(U) has maintained a dominant presence in this region for a considerable period. This constituency is part of the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency and comprises eight blocks and numerous gram panchayats.
Tarapur: The Tarapur seat is highly likely to remain with the NDA in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Samrat Chaudhary's father, Shakuni Chaudhary, has had a long-standing influence in this area. Although he has retired from politics, his impact persists. This is the primary reason why the victory of an NDA candidate here is considered almost certain.
Tarapur is a part of the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, which includes eight blocks and several gram panchayats. This assembly constituency was established in 1951. Since then, a total of 19 assembly elections have been held here, including two by-elections.
Political History of Tarapur
Initially, Congress held sway in Tarapur, but the political landscape shifted in the 1990s. During the 1995 assembly elections, a grenade attack occurred targeting Congress candidate Sachidanand Singh. He was severely injured and taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Shakuni Chaudhary's name emerged in connection with this attack, yet he managed to win the seat.
A total of 19 elections have been contested for the Tarapur seat. Congress has won five times, JD(U) six times, and RJD three times. The six victories by JD(U) are also registered under the Samata Party banner. Additionally, the United Socialist Party, Shoshit Dal, Janata Party, CPI, and independent candidates have each secured a victory once.
Notably, Shakuni Chaudhary single-handedly established his bhold here by winning six elections, while his wife won once. In his political career, Shakuni Chaudhary contested and won elections representing Congress, Samata Party, RJD, and as an independent.
Current Political Equation
This seat has been consistently held by the JD(U) since 2015. Although the margin of victory for the JD(U) was narrow in the 2020 assembly elections, the NDA's influence remains b. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, an RLGD candidate also gained an advantage here, indicating the b hold of the alliance in Tarapur. However, the RJD is also preparing for a comeback. The RJD aims to present a challenge by mobilizing the Yadav vote bank and local constituents.
Political analysts, however, suggest that the JD(U) candidate will receive significant support from Samrat Chaudhary. Samrat, the son of Shakuni Chaudhary, has enhanced his political stature in recent years and gained popularity among local leaders and the public. The Tarapur seat is not only crucial within the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency but is also considered significant in Bihar's politics concerning the OBC and Yadav communities.
