Trump Expresses Ambiguity

In his latest statement regarding TikTok, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the final decision in this matter will depend on China and the status of the deal. He clarified that both options, extending the deadline for the TikTok deal or terminating it, are open. The decision regarding the ban on TikTok in America or its sale to an American company has not yet been finalized.

Trump's statement makes it clear that China's role in this deal will be decisive. He also mentioned that the app is important for children and they might consider saving it from a ban.

TikTok Ban and Deadline in America

Citing national security concerns, America had banned TikTok a few months ago. It was then stated that by January 2025, it would have to opt for a sale to an American individual or company, otherwise the ban would be implemented. Following this, President Trump extended this deadline three times, and the new deadline is now set for September 17.

If this deadline is extended again, it will be the fourth time that additional time will be given to complete the TikTok deal. This clearly indicates that the situation regarding this matter in America is still not entirely clear.

What Trump Said

Last month, Trump had stated that interest in American companies buying TikTok was increasing and they might extend the deadline. However, in his recent statement, he expressed ambiguity on this. Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Trump said, "I might extend the deadline and I might not. We are talking about TikTok. We can leave it to die... and I don't know. It depends on China."

He stated that it is important to keep this app for children as they like it. During his election campaign, Trump had also hinted that he would try to save TikTok from a ban.
