INDIA Bloc Gears Up for Monsoon Session: Key Meeting to Solidify Opposition Strategy

Ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition alliance INDIA bloc has begun preparations to further strengthen its strategy. In this sequence, an important meeting will be held in Delhi on July 19.

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition alliance INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) has called a crucial meeting on July 19 to sharpen its strategy. This meeting will take place at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, 10 Rajaji Marg, Delhi. This meeting is considered extremely important not only from the perspective of deciding the strategy for the Parliament session but also in terms of strengthening opposition unity.

Opposition's preparation before the Parliament session

Senior leaders from several opposition parties, including Congress, RJD, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), Samajwadi Party, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Left parties, will participate in the meeting. However, uncertainty remains regarding the participation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC). The recent distancing of AAP and TMC from meetings and their different stance on the Pahalgam attack have raised questions about the unity of the opposition.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi are likely to attend this meeting. The opposition wants to raise its voice unitedly against the government in Parliament and formulate a joint strategy on important national and international issues.

Issues to be discussed

In the meeting, there will be detailed discussions on which issues the opposition parties will raise in Parliament to corner the government. Some of the major issues that may be the center of discussion in this meeting are -

  • The case of the controversial voter list in Bihar
  • Pahalgam terrorist attack and questions related to national security
  • The intention behind suddenly stopping 'Operation Sindoor'
  • Questions on India's foreign policy regarding Donald Trump's alleged mediation statement in America
  • The Congress wants the issues of regional parties to be given space at the national level in Parliament so that the voice of the INDIA alliance appears ber and broader.

Litmus test of opposition unity

This meeting is not only limited to deciding the strategy for the Parliament session, but it will also determine whether the INDIA alliance will be able to become a b alternative in the future or not. Recently, leaders like Uddhav Thackeray and Omar Abdullah had expressed concern about the irregularity of meetings and lack of coordination within the INDIA alliance.

The repeated distancing of important parties like AAP and TMC seems to weaken the opposition unity. Especially when AAP did not sign the letter sent by the opposition to the Prime Minister regarding the Pahalgam attack and sent a separate letter. All these things have raised questions about the credibility and unity in the INDIA alliance.

What can be decided in this meeting?

  • Collective strategy in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during the monsoon session.
  • Outline of collective protest programs against the government inside and outside the Parliament.
  • Schedule of regular meetings and dialogue to further strengthen opposition unity.
  • Joint strategy to corner the government by combining regional and national issues.

The level of cooperation and trust within the INDIA alliance will also become clear from this meeting. If the opposition appears united, it could pose a challenge for the ruling party in the upcoming session. On the other hand, if major parties maintain distance, it will send a message that the INDIA alliance is only for namesake and does not have strength at the ground level.
