Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the central government following the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filing a chargesheet against Robert Vadra in the Gurugram land scam case. Terming the action as political vendetta, he wrote on social media platform 'X', "This government has been harassing my brother-in-law for the last ten years. This latest chargesheet is yet another part of the same conspiracy."
Rahul Gandhi wrote that he stands firmly with Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi, and their children. He described it as malicious and politically motivated defamation, stating that the family has faced harassment before and will continue to face it with dignity. Rahul expressed confidence that truth will ultimately prevail.
The ED's action comes at a time when the opposition has already been accusing the central government of misusing central agencies.
Crores of Rupees in Land Transactions Under Scrutiny
The Enforcement Directorate has tightened its grip on Robert Vadra and his company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, by filing a chargesheet. The investigation agency has attached a total of 43 immovable properties belonging to Vadra and companies associated with him, with an estimated value of approximately ₹37.64 crore.
According to the ED's investigation, in 2008, Skylight Hospitality purchased 3.53 acres of land in Shikohpur village (Sector-83) of Gurugram for ₹7.5 crore. It is alleged that this land was sold for ₹58 crore without completing the project. Considering this transaction suspicious, Robert Vadra has been named as the main accused in the chargesheet.
The investigation agency has questioned Vadra for more than 18 hours so far. In addition, several leaders of the Haryana Congress have also been questioned in this matter.
What is the complete Gurugram Land Scam Case?
This case is related to an FIR registered in the year 2018. On September 1, 2018, Gurugram Police registered an FIR (number 288) alleging that Robert Vadra, through his company Skylight Hospitality, had fraudulently purchased land from Onkareshwar Properties Pvt. Ltd.
The FIR stated that false documents were used in this deal and Robert Vadra, using his political influence, also obtained a commercial license for this land.
Now, the ED has issued an order on July 16, 2025, to provisionally attach 43 properties. Exactly one day later, on July 17, a chargesheet (prosecution complaint) has been filed in the Rouse Avenue Court, New Delhi, against Vadra along with 11 other people and entities.
This case has created a stir in political circles, where the Congress is calling it political harassment, while there has been no official reaction from the central government so far.
