Who is Tapan Deka?

Tapan Kumar Deka is the 28th Director of the Intelligence Bureau of India. He assumed the responsibility in July 2022. Deka has been associated with the IB since 1995 and has played a significant role in numerous crucial operations. He was born on February 25, 1963, in Sarthabari, Assam.

After obtaining a Master's degree in Physics from Delhi University, Tapan Deka cleared the Indian Police Service (IPS) examination in 1988 and joined the Himachal Pradesh cadre. Subsequently, he served in various capacities within the intelligence agency, including Deputy Director, Joint Director, Additional Director, and Special Director.

Tapan Deka's Contribution to Counter-Terrorism

Tapan Deka is recognized as a counter-terrorism expert. He has been actively involved in numerous operations against Pakistan-sponsored terrorist groups. He played a crucial role in the investigation of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, bringing the perpetrators to justice.
