India Inducts 'Adhamya': New Fast Patrol Vessel Boosts Maritime Security

India has set a new precedent in the field of maritime security, officially inducting the country's first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), 'Adhamya,' into the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

Delhi News: The Indian Coast Guard has achieved another historic milestone by adding the country's first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) 'Adhamya' to its fleet. This will not only strengthen coastal security but also give new impetus to the Indian government's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives. With 'Adhamya', India has become even more capable in the field of maritime border security.

'Adhamya': A Confluence of Technology and Strength

'Adhamya' has been built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a leading institution in shipbuilding for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. It is the first ship built under the 8 FPV project, which is one of a total of 8 Fast Patrol Vessels.

  • Length: 52 meters
  • Width: 8 meters
  • Displacement: 320 tons
  • Maximum Speed: 27 knots (approximately 50 km/h)
  • Propulsion System: Pitch propeller based, which can be controlled

This ship has been designed under the dual class certification of the American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping. This means that this ship fully meets international safety standards.

An Example of Indigenous Construction

The biggest feature of 'Adhamya' is its 60% indigenous construction. Most of the parts and equipment used in it have been manufactured in India. This not only demonstrates the country's technical capabilities, but also strengthens the domestic defense industry. This project is being completed at a cost of approximately 473 crore rupees and its aim is to accelerate surveillance, patrolling, control, and Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in coastal areas.

Will Play an Important Role in Security

'Adhamya' has been designed in accordance with the requirements of the Indian Coast Guard. It will assist in the following missions:

  • Coastal security and surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
  • Curbing illegal activities such as smuggling, fishing, and infiltration
  • Search and Rescue Operations in the event of a disaster
  • Fast interception for rapid response in strategic areas

Journey from Launch to Commissioning

'Adhamya' was first launched on October 28, 2024, at Goa Shipyard Limited. On the same day, another FPV, 'Akshar', was also launched. Now, on June 26, 2025, Adhamya has been officially inducted into the Indian Coast Guard. On this occasion, the ICG wrote on social media: India strengthens its maritime power! This Fast Patrol Vessel, made with 60% indigenous content, demonstrates the power of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
