The third and final One Day International between India and New Zealand will be played today at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Along with deciding the series result, the match will also test India’s 37-year record of not losing a bilateral ODI series at home against New Zealand.
Series and Home Record
India have not lost a bilateral ODI series against New Zealand on home soil for nearly four decades. Since New Zealand first toured India in 1989, they have not won a bilateral ODI series in India.
Venue: Holkar Cricket Stadium
India have not lost a single ODI match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. The venue is known for its small boundaries and batting-friendly conditions. Today’s match will be played on a black-soil centre wicket, which is considered favourable for batters.
Team Situation
India will enter the third ODI with the objective of winning the series. The team’s performance in the first two matches did not appear fully balanced. The spin attack has not been able to take wickets in the middle overs, and contributions from the lower order have been limited. The team management has also not been able to finalise a settled all-rounder combination.
Captain and Coach
Captain Shubman Gill has struggled for form in the series, though he scored a half-century in the previous match. Ahead of the Indore ODI, Gill spent an extended session practising in the nets. Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India previously lost an ODI series at home to Sri Lanka for the first time after five Test matches.
Individual Records
Rohit Sharma has scored one century and one half-century at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. His performances in the series so far have not been consistent. Virat Kohli has not scored a half-century in ODIs at Indore.
Possible Team Changes
India may make changes to the playing eleven for the third ODI. Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh could be included in place of Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna. Arshdeep trained on the centre wicket on Saturday under the supervision of bowling coach Morne Morkel.
Other Players
Ayush Badoni, included in the squad as a replacement for the injured Washington Sundar, could be given an opportunity. Nitish Kumar Reddy has not made a significant impact in the series so far.
Recent Home Record
India have not lost a bilateral ODI series at home since March 2019. The last such defeat came against Australia in a five-match series, where India lost 3–2 after leading 2–0. In 2025, New Zealand defeated India 3–0 in a Test series.

India’s squad includes Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ayush Badoni, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana.
