India Rejects Pakistan's War-Mongering Rhetoric, Ruling on Indus Waters Treaty. Ministry of External Affairs Warns Against Restraint, Emphasizes Partnership with the US.
New Delhi: India has completely rejected Pakistan's war-mongering statements and the so-called Court of Arbitration's decision regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that Pakistan should exercise restraint in its rhetoric. The ministry also stated that no final decision has been made yet regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UNGA visit.
India's Reaction to Pakistan's Rhetoric
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in the weekly press conference on Thursday that repeated war-mongering statements against India by the Pakistani leadership have become their old habit. Jaiswal said that this statement is an attempt to hide their failures. He clarified, "We advise Pakistan to exercise restraint in its rhetoric. Any misadventure will have painful consequences."
India's Big Statement on the Indus Waters Treaty
India has completely rejected the so-called Court of Arbitration's decision regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. Jaiswal said, "India has never accepted the legitimacy, jurisdiction, or competence of this so-called Court. Its decision has no legal basis and does not affect India's water utilization rights."
He also reiterated that on June 27, 2025, the Government of India had suspended this treaty under a sovereign decision. This step was taken after Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, especially the Pahalgam attack. India has repeatedly clarified that its water policy is in the interest of national security and development.
Strong Strategic Partnership Between India and the United States
The Ministry of External Affairs also emphasized the strategic relations between India and the United States. Jaiswal said, "India and the United States have a comprehensive global strategic partnership. This partnership is based on shared interests, democratic values, and b people-to-people ties."
Joint Military Exercise in Alaska
Several important steps are being taken this month to further strengthen the India-US defense partnership. Jaiswal informed that the US Defense Policy team will visit India in mid-August. In addition, the 21st joint military exercise will be held in Alaska this month.
Both countries are also going to hold a 2+2 intersessional meeting at the end of the month. Jaiswal said that "Defense cooperation is an important pillar of our bilateral relations. It has strengthened in all areas and will be even more influential in the future."
No Decision Yet on PM Modi's UNGA Visit
The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that no final decision has been taken yet on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UNGA visit. The ministry also informed that India is an active member of the BRICS group and is in constant contact with other member countries on issues of common interest.
The Ministry of External Affairs also clarified India's position on alternative currency and de-dollarization. This is part of India's financial agenda and is being implemented keeping in mind global economic stability.
