India-US: India has given a clear and measured response to the concerns raised by the United States regarding the closeness between India and Russia. Responding to recent statements by US President Donald Trump, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that it is the White House's responsibility to respond to this. He also clarified that India makes decisions under its independent foreign policy, keeping its interests in mind.
MEA's Clear Reaction to Trump's Statement
US President Donald Trump recently stated that India may buy oil from Pakistan in the future and that its closeness with Russia is a matter of concern for the US. Reacting to this, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "As far as the White House statement is concerned, it is for the White House to react to it." He further added that India's foreign policy is entirely based on national interests and is not influenced by the pressure of any country.
India's Stance on Sanctions Imposed by the US
When asked about the sanctions imposed by the US on Indian companies trading with Iran, Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have noted these sanctions and the government is considering it." In this way, India is in favor of maintaining sovereignty in its business decisions despite US pressure.
Emphasis on India-US Defence Partnership
The spokesperson also said that cooperation between India and the US in the defence and security sector is continuously strengthening. He said, "We have created the India-US Compact Partnership for the 21st century, which is based on shared interests and democratic values."
According to Randhir Jaiswal, this partnership has gone through many global challenges and changes, but both countries are focused on their agenda and will continue to work in this direction.
MEA Did Not Give a Direct Response on Oil Purchases from Russia
When asked if Indian oil companies have started buying oil from Russia again, he refused to comment directly on this. He said, "I would not like to comment on this issue."
