India Upgrades Kabul Mission to Embassy After Afghan FM Muttaqi Meets Jaishankar

Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met S Jaishankar in Delhi. India has now upgraded its technical mission in Kabul to an embassy. This will promote bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

World News: Recently, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited India. During this visit, he met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. In their discussions, both leaders emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Afghanistan and India. This meeting is expected to give a new impetus to diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries.

India's Major Decision

Following the Afghan Foreign Minister's visit, India has now elevated its technical mission in Kabul to the status of an embassy. This step demonstrates India's commitment to strengthening ties with Afghanistan. Earlier, in June 2022, India had sent a technical team to Kabul on a limited basis. Now, with this mission receiving full embassy status, diplomatic contacts between the two countries will be further strengthened.

History of Indian Embassy in Kabul

India had withdrawn its diplomats from the Kabul embassy in 2021 after the Taliban took control of power in Afghanistan. At that time, India had limited its presence due to security concerns and political instability. This current step is the result of efforts made to build trust and enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Ministry of External Affairs Statement

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this step demonstrates India's resolve in Afghanistan. The Ministry's statement said that the Indian Embassy in Kabul will now further enhance India's contribution to Afghanistan's overall development, humanitarian aid, and capacity building programs.
