India vs England T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final at Wankhede Stadium as Sam Curran says he expects Indian crowd to fall silent

Ahead of the second semi-final of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup between India and the England national cricket team on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, England all-rounder Sam Curran said he expects the Indian crowd at the venue to fall silent during the match.

Speaking before the match, Sam Curran said he would remind Indian fans of the 2023 ODI World Cup and expressed confidence that the stadium would become quiet during the contest. The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium.

During the pre-match press conference, Sam Curran said the Wankhede Stadium is an iconic venue and expressed his expectations regarding the atmosphere during the match.

“This Wankhede Stadium is fantastic and iconic. I hope it will be quite quiet here on Thursday night. As a young cricketer, you dream of playing a World Cup semi-final against India. The wicket here is usually favourable for batters. It is a small ground, so a high-scoring match is expected,” Curran said.

He added that the presence of Indian supporters would be challenging, but said his experience and the team’s preparation would keep them fully prepared for the match.

A large turnout of Indian fans is expected at the Mumbai venue for the semi-final. The T20-format contest is important for both India and England.

Curran indicated that the crowd at the stadium would not affect him and said he would approach the match with confidence.

India and England also faced each other in the semi-final of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In that match, England recorded a 10-wicket victory.

Players from both teams are expected to consider their previous experience while planning strategies for the current contest.
