A grand centenary celebration for 100 years of Indian hockey is set to be held in New Delhi starting November 7. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced this, stating that the event is a celebration of a century filled with the nation's pride, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
SPORTS NEWS: The celebration of Indian hockey completing a hundred years is grandly commencing across the country from today. Indian hockey made its debut in 1925, and now, a century later, this sport has become a symbol of inspiration not only for sports enthusiasts but also for the younger generation. On this occasion, the glorious history of hockey will be honored at both national and international levels.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated on this occasion that the event is a celebration of Indian hockey's glorious legacy, sportsmanship, and patriotism. He informed that the ceremony would be held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, featuring several special programs and cultural events.
Hockey Celebrations Across 550 Districts Nationwide
This hockey centenary celebration will not be limited to the national capital alone. Parallel events will be organized in 550 districts across the country. Approximately 1,400 hockey matches will be played in these districts, including one men's and one women's match in each district. The objective of this initiative is not only to promote equality and inclusivity in sports but also to strengthen the culture of hockey in both rural and urban areas. Over 36,000 players will participate in this event, making the celebration a national festival of Indian sports culture.
A grand photo exhibition will also be organized at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. This exhibition will showcase the glorious 100-year journey of Indian hockey. It will feature rare photographs, glimpses of the Olympics, and important artifacts from the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics to the present day. Spectators will be able to witness the golden history of Indian hockey in a vibrant form, including the achievements of great players and glimpses of national pride.
Release of a Special Commemorative Edition
To mark the centenary year, an official commemorative edition titled "100 Years of Indian Hockey" will also be released. This book will detail the story of Indian hockey's victories, struggles, and resurgence. The commemorative edition will pay tribute to the great players who brought glory to India at the Olympic and world levels. Through this, the younger generation will receive inspiration to connect with hockey and develop a sense of respect for the sport.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mandaviya stated, "Hockey is not just a game for India; it is part of our identity and collective spirit. Through this centenary celebration, we will not only highlight our heritage but also inspire future generations by connecting youth with hockey." He also added that this hockey celebration would reach every corner of the country, showcasing the successes and achievements of Indian hockey to everyone.
