Indian Navy Day 2025: Today, on December 4, on the occasion of Indian Navy Day, the nation is showcasing its maritime power and fleet strength. India's Navy is the world's fifth-largest and in a far more capable position compared to China and Pakistan. This fleet includes two aircraft carriers, 18 submarines, 12 frigates, 12 destroyers, 138 patrol vessels, and over 300 aircraft. With the induction of 96 new ships and Rafale jets in the coming years, the Navy's strength will further increase, solidifying India's maritime security and strategic superiority.
Fleet and Modern Warfare Capability
The Indian Navy possesses two aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, which are crucial components of India's maritime air power. Frigates and corvettes are equipped with advanced missiles and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. Recently inducted ships like INS Nilgiri, INS Surat, and INS Vagsheer have enhanced the Navy's offensive and defensive capabilities.
The number of destroyers and submarines provides India with strategic maritime superiority. India will soon induct INS Aridhaman, bringing the total number of operational nuclear ballistic submarines to three. In the coming years, 96 new ships and submarines will be inducted into the Navy, increasing the total fleet strength to 160 by 2030.

Comparison with China and Pakistan
China possesses two aircraft carriers and 78 submarines, whereas Pakistan has no aircraft carriers and nine submarines. India's position is also significantly better than Pakistan's in terms of the number of frigates and destroyers. The strength of patrol vessels and aircraft further bolsters the Indian Navy compared to China and Pakistan.
Future Preparedness and Modernization
The Navy is continuously working on modernization, which includes indigenous shipbuilding, modern drones, robotic systems, and Rafale-M fighter jets. By 2029, four Rafale jets will be inducted into the Navy, further strengthening its air defense and strike capabilities.
