Indian Railway: Indian Railways has launched the 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign across the country. This campaign, which began on September 17, will run for 15 days. During this period, extensive cleaning activities will be carried out at railway stations, office premises, and surrounding areas. The Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, has directed all zones to ensure active participation.

Campaign Launched on Prime Minister Modi's Birthday

This campaign was launched on September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. It is not limited to the railways alone, but other government departments, schools, colleges, and the general public are also participating. The Prime Minister himself has inspired people by participating in cleanliness drives from time to time.

Appeal from the Railway Board

On September 9, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar wrote to the General Managers of all zones, appealing for their personal involvement in this campaign. He stated that this is not just a cleaning program but a symbol of collective effort. Such participation is crucial for the success of this campaign.

Campaign Ongoing Since 2017

The 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign has been organized annually since 2017. Its aim is to showcase the combined efforts of society and the government. This campaign raises public awareness about cleanliness and involves leadership at all levels.

Objective of the Campaign

The primary goal of this campaign is to increase public awareness regarding cleanliness. Railways have clarified that this initiative will not be confined to stations alone. It will also encompass railway colonies, offices, and public spaces. The plan is to involve schools, colleges, and social organizations to transform it into a larger social movement.

Special Emphasis on Voluntary Labor (Shramdaan)

A key aspect of the campaign is the significant emphasis placed on voluntary labor (Shramdaan). People are being encouraged to clean their surrounding areas such as parks, bus stands, railway stations, and historical monuments themselves. This will convey the message that cleanliness is not just the responsibility of employees but the duty of every citizen.
