Indian equity markets openedclining slightly in early trade. Market breadth remained mixed, with selective buying in stocks such as ITC, NTPC, and ONGC, while IT stocks including Wipro, HCLTech, and Tech Mahindra saw declines.

Indian equity markets opened Friday’s trading session on a subdued and volatile note, with investor sentiment remaining cautious amid global cues and ongoing corporate quarterly earnings announcements. In early trade, the BSE Sensex was up marginally by 34.49 points at 78,023.17, while the NSE Nifty 50 declined 17.15 points to 24,179.60.

The broader market trend indicated a mixed performance, with 1,628 stocks advancing, 738 declining, and 168 remaining unchanged. The distribution of market breadth reflected the absence of a clear directional trend, with investors continuing to adopt a selective, stock-specific approach.

Gains in select heavyweight stocks provided partial support to the market. Shares of ITC Limited, NTPC Limited, Trent Limited, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), and Adani Enterprises recorded buying interest during the session.

In contrast, the information technology sector witnessed declines, with shares of Wipro, HCLTech, and Tech Mahindra trading lower. Selling pressure was also observed in HDFC Life and Tata Consumer Products.
