Gold and silver prices in India rose sharply on April 17, 2026, driven by increased demand ahead of the upcoming Akshaya Tritiya festival on April 19 and global market factors. Prices of precious metals advanced amid global uncertainty and weakness in the US dollar.
In the domestic market, 24-carat gold crossed ₹1.55 lakh per 10 grams, while silver traded near its record high levels.
Gold prices increased by ₹1,420 per 10 grams on the day. The latest rates in India are ₹1,55,360 per 10 grams for 24-carat gold, ₹1,42,410 per 10 grams for 22-carat gold, and ₹1,16,520 per 10 grams for 18-carat gold.
Silver prices also recorded a sharp rise, approaching record levels. The metal is currently priced at ₹2,70,100 per kilogram and ₹2,701 per 10 grams.
According to experts, multiple global factors are contributing to the rise in precious metal prices. Weakness in the US dollar index has made gold more expensive, as a weaker dollar increases demand by making gold cheaper in other currencies.

Expectations of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve following easing inflation have also supported demand, with investors shifting towards gold.
Despite reports of easing tensions between the United States and Iran, global economic uncertainty persists, leading investors to prefer gold as a safe-haven asset.
Additionally, increased buying demand in India ahead of the Akshaya Tritiya festival has added upward pressure on prices.
In the global market, gold is trading at approximately $4,845 per ounce, reflecting sustained investor demand.
