Indian equity markets closed the final trading session of the week with gains, as increased buying in the latter part of the session lifted key indices into positive territory despite initial sluggishness.
Global cues supported sentiment following a decline in crude oil prices after US President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding a potential agreement with Iran. The easing in oil prices reduced concerns over prolonged supply disruptions, contributing to improved sentiment in global markets. This moderation in crude prices had a direct impact on domestic equities, where investor sentiment strengthened and recovery trends were observed.
The 30-share benchmark index BSE Sensex rose 504.86 points, or 0.65 percent, to close at 78,493.54. The broader Nifty 50 index advanced 156.80 points, or 0.65 percent, to settle at 24,353.55. Markets witnessed volatility during the session, but buying activity in the final hour reinforced the upward momentum.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee appreciated by 29 paise to close at 92.85 against the US dollar on a provisional basis.
In the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 92.93 and touched an intraday high of 92.65. It later settled slightly above the session’s low of 92.98. This marks the second consecutive session of gains for the domestic currency.
