According to the Ministry of External Affairs' annual report, India has elevated its diplomatic standing through hosting the G-20, participating in major global groups like G-7 and BRICS, and conducting relief operations in over 20 countries. Its firm stance against terrorism and efforts to become the voice of the Global South have further enhanced India's international recognition.
India's Strength Amidst Global Challenges
The 2024 annual report released by the Ministry of External Affairs also mentions the major challenges that emerged globally this year. According to the report, while the world was grappling with economic fluctuations, climate crisis, and geopolitical tensions, India played the role of a stable, responsible, and decisive nation.
India's Active Global Participation
According to the report, India actively participated in several important international groups and conferences in 2024. These include the United Nations, G-20, G-7, BRICS, Quad, and SCO, among others.
Last year, India presided over the G-20 summit, which was considered a major success in the field of global diplomacy. This year, India, along with Brazil and South Africa, was part of the G-20 Troika and collectively discussed global issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi represented India at the 19th G-20 summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18-19. This summit was also historic as the African Union participated for the first time as a full member.
India Becomes the Voice of the Global South
India hosted the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit. The summit was attended by 173 representatives from around the world, primarily from developing nations and those in the Southern Hemisphere. This summit reflects India's policy of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (Together with all, Development for all) at a global level.
From this platform, India highlighted the needs and challenges of developing countries on the global agenda. It also clarified that India wants to emerge not only as its own voice but also as the voice of the Global South.
Tough Stance on Terrorism
The Ministry of External Affairs' report also highlighted India's stance, where it has adopted a strict and clear policy against terrorism. During the G-7 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a clear message on eliminating terrorism and appealed to the global community to take concrete steps in this direction.
India's participation in the G-7 summit held in Italy is proof of this commitment. Prime Minister Modi also discussed bilateral issues with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and reiterated the resolve to strengthen the partnership.
Relief Operations Conducted in Over 20 Countries
India has worked remarkably not only at the diplomatic level but also in the field of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR). According to the report, India conducted relief and rescue operations in over 20 countries in 2024.
Key operations include:
- 'Operation Indravati' in Haiti
- Airlift operation in Kuwait
- 'Operation Sadbhav' in Myanmar
Through these operations, India has demonstrated that it is a trustworthy friend and partner in times of crisis.
