Iran Protests Turn Violent Since December 2025 With 2,000 Deaths Reported

Nationwide protests that began in Iran in late December 2025 have turned violent, with local media and government sources reporting that approximately 2,000 people have been killed so far. Iranian authorities have attributed the deaths to what they describe as “terrorist elements.” Protesters have taken to the streets chanting slogans against the government and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Public anger has been directed at government policies and increased restrictions on freedoms. Protesters have raised slogans including calls against the Supreme Leader and demands for the return of exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. Security forces have adopted strict measures to suppress the demonstrations, contributing to heightened violence and tension across several areas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning to the United States, stating that Iran is fully prepared to respond to any action taken by Washington. He said that if the United States were to pursue a military option, Iran would respond accordingly. Araghchi added that Iran’s armed forces and security agencies are prepared for all scenarios and are confident in confronting any threat to the country.

Iran also issued a formal warning to the United States, stating that it is fully aware of its adversaries. The Iranian Embassy in India released a statement saying that pro-government demonstrations had defeated the plans of foreign enemies. In a post on X, the embassy said the Iranian nation had demonstrated its identity, resolve, and strength, and warned US politicians against what it described as deception and reliance on mercenary forces.

Protests across Iran have continued to escalate into violent confrontations, with clashes reported between demonstrators and security forces in multiple locations. Heavy security deployments have been reported on city streets, and internet and communication services have been restricted in several areas.

Iran and the United States remain at heightened levels of tension. US officials have warned Iran and indicated the possibility of military action, while Iranian authorities have reiterated that the country is fully prepared to respond to any foreign aggression.
