Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has been allocated a Type-8 bungalow in Delhi's Lutyens' Zone. If he does not prefer it, the ministry will also provide him with alternative accommodation.
Delhi: A new government bungalow has been designated for former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in Delhi's Lutyens' Zone. The Directorate of Estates, under the Union Ministry of Urban Development, has vacated a Type-8 category bungalow at 34, APJ Abdul Kalam Road. This bungalow is allocated to the former Vice President after his term.
According to sources, this bungalow will be allotted to Dhankhar soon. However, if he does not like this accommodation, the ministry will provide him with another option. This arrangement is made under the rules for former Presidents, former Vice Presidents, and former Prime Ministers, ensuring they receive top-category government accommodation in the Lutyens' Zone.
Features of a Type-8 Bungalow
A Type-8 bungalow is a special category of government accommodation. It is located in the Lutyens' Zone, considered the most prominent and secure area of the capital, Delhi. This type of bungalow has all the facilities available according to security, convenience, and administrative requirements. In addition, leaders who have held former constitutional positions also get the option of two acres of land at their native place along with this bungalow.
Located at 34, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, this bungalow has been designed keeping in mind modern security standards and administrative needs. It has extensive gardens, parking arrangements, security posts, and other necessary administrative facilities. This is why this bungalow is considered an ideal residence for the former Vice President.
Why was this Bungalow Needed?
Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21, 2025. He cited health reasons, but there are many speculations about it in political circles. Opposition leaders say that the resignation was not only due to health reasons, but there may be other political reasons behind it.
Arranging suitable VVIP accommodation for Dhankhar in Delhi after his resignation is part of the administrative process. According to the rules, the former Vice President is given the option of a Type-8 bungalow in the Lutyens' Zone and two acres of land after his term.
Preparation of Ministry and Administration
The Union Ministry of Urban Development completed this process in a very systematic manner. The Directorate of Estates finalized the cleaning, repairs, and security arrangements of the bungalow. Officials said that the bungalow will be made available to the former Vice President immediately. If Dhankhar does not like this bungalow, the ministry may look for other options for him. This includes Type-8 or higher category government bungalows available in other safe and VVIP areas of the capital. This process has also been adopted for former Presidents and former Prime Ministers.
Administrative Importance of the Bungalow
Having a bungalow in the Lutyens' Zone is important from a security and administrative point of view. This area makes monitoring and security arrangements easier for the Delhi Police and other security agencies. Type-8 bungalows usually have facilities like CCTV cameras, security guards, barriers, and emergency exit arrangements.
Being the residence of the former Vice President, additional security standards are implemented here. Security agencies say that ensuring the safety of the officers living in such a bungalow is a priority. Apart from this, administrative offices and meeting rooms are also present in the bungalow, so that necessary matters can be resolved immediately.
