The budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly commenced on Friday with disruptions, as members of the treasury benches and the opposition engaged in sloganeering and protests inside the House. The proceedings were temporarily adjourned after the situation escalated, and marshals were called in to intervene.
The disruption began when legislators from the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party raised slogans of “Israel Murdabad” inside the House. Some members also displayed posters and banners featuring Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The protest was aimed at expressing opposition to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The display of slogans and banners contributed to further escalation within the Assembly.
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party responded with counter-slogans, including “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.” BJP legislators also raised issues related to Jammu, chanting slogans such as “Jammu ko insaaf do.” The exchange of slogans between both sides intensified, making it difficult to conduct proceedings.

Amid the protests, some legislators, including Tanvir Sadiq, attended the session wearing black clothing, with protest messages written on their foreheads. Their demonstration was directed against reported attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran. The actions contributed to heightened tensions within the House.
Several members entered the well of the House carrying posters and banners, raising additional slogans, including “America hai-hai.” The situation further escalated when members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress came face to face. Slogans were raised in support of Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, respectively. The confrontation intensified, with verbal exchanges escalating into pushing and jostling.
As the disruption continued, the Assembly proceedings were adjourned within approximately 20 to 25 minutes of commencement for a duration of 30 minutes. Marshals were deployed to manage the situation and separate members. Following their intervention, the situation was brought under partial control, and plans were made to resume proceedings at the scheduled time.
