Indian Shot Putter Jasmine Kaur Provisionally Suspended for Doping Violation

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has provisionally suspended Indian shot put athlete Jasmine Kaur after she tested positive for a banned substance. This information has emerged from the latest list of provisional suspensions released by NADA.

Sports News: Emerging Indian shot put athlete Jasmine Kaur has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after failing a doping test. This news is a major setback for the country's sports community, especially as Jasmine was recently lauded for her outstanding performance at the National Games.

Jasmine's doping sample tested positive for Terbutaline, a prohibited substance. Terbutaline is commonly found in cough medicines, but under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, it cannot be used in competitive sports without permission. Jasmine's name has recently been added to NADA's provisional suspension list, making it clear that she is not allowed to participate in competitions until a formal investigation and hearing are completed.

Jasmine had performed brilliantly at the National Games

22-year-old Jasmine Kaur won a gold medal earlier this year at the National Games held in Dehradun, with a personal best throw of 15.97 meters. After that performance, she was seen as the future of Indian women's shot put. Jasmine, who hails from Punjab, also secured second place at the inter-university games last year with a throw of 14.75 meters. Her career had been on a consistent upward trajectory, but this doping case could prove to be a major setback for her career.

What is a provisional suspension?

A provisional suspension imposed by NADA means that Jasmine will not be allowed to participate in any national or international competition until the ongoing investigation against her is completed and a final decision is made. If, after the investigation, she is found guilty of a doping violation, she could face a ban of two to four years, and her previous records could also be annulled.
