The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the southwest monsoon may reach Jharkhand within the next four to five days as favourable conditions continue to develop for its advancement into the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi, the southwest monsoon is progressing rapidly and is moving towards Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha after advancing through various parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. If the current weather conditions persist, the monsoon is expected to enter most parts of Jharkhand within the next four to five days.
Meteorologist Abhishek Anand said that with the monsoon becoming active, several parts of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while some areas may experience heavy rain.
The onset of rainfall is expected to bring down temperatures and provide relief from hot and humid conditions that have prevailed across several parts of the state in recent days. The arrival of the monsoon is also expected to benefit water sources and groundwater levels.
The monsoon's arrival is considered important for the agriculture sector as the commencement of rainfall will mark the beginning of favourable conditions for sowing kharif crops. Farmers across the state have been awaiting the monsoon for the cultivation of paddy and other kharif crops. Experts believe that the timely arrival of the monsoon could accelerate agricultural activities and improve prospects for crop production.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for June 10 in the northwestern and central parts of the state. Thunderstorms, lightning and b winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Gumla, Bokaro, Khunti, Lohardaga and Dhanbad districts.
An orange alert has been issued for some districts on June 11 and 12. Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Koderma, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Jamtara, Giridih and Sahibganj may experience thunderstorms, lightning and b winds. Wind speeds in these areas could reach 50 to 60 kmph.
The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions, avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning, and follow official weather warnings. Authorities and weather officials are continuing to monitor the situation as rainfall activity is expected to increase with the arrival of the monsoon.
