Jharkhand’s monsoon activity has increased again after a period of relatively low rainfall. The weather department has warned of heavy rain in several parts of the state on September 9 and 10, with rain, thunderstorms and lightning likely to continue until September 13.

According to the weather department, several parts of Jharkhand may receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for several districts on September 9.

On September 9, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Giridih, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj and Pakur are expected to receive heavy rain with the possibility of lightning. A yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

On September 10, heavy rain is likely in Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Giridih. The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for these areas.

The weather change has been attributed to the influence of several weather systems. A low-pressure area is present over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh, while the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal. An upper-air cyclonic circulation is also active over northeastern parts of Bihar.

These systems are expected to keep rain and thunderstorm activity in Jharkhand in place for the next several days. The forecast issued by the Ranchi centre of the India Meteorological Department also includes a weather warning for Jharkhand until September 13.

Rain activity may decrease in some areas on September 11 and 12, although cloudy conditions and light rain may continue.

The weather department has advised people to take precautions during rain and lightning. People should avoid open fields, agricultural areas and taking shelter under trees during adverse weather conditions. Farmers and people living in rural areas have been advised to remain particularly cautious.

Temperatures are also likely to fall due to the rain. Humidity and heat may decrease, while heavy rain could cause localised waterlogging and difficulties with travel.
